Teacher, Jessica Griffith

"School Teacher, Jessica Griffith who discovered a satchel bag belonging to one Mona Stonyer at the back of a cupboard

She was amazed by the contents of a dusty old satchel found at the back of a school cupboard. When Jessica Griffith opened the bag, she found exercise books belonging to a little girl who'd been a pupil at the school almost 100 years ago.

The battered leather satchel belonged to Monica Stonyer, who must have lost the bag in 1930.

The bag laid untouched ever since.

Mona's books for History of Arts, Biology, Religious Studies, and Geology, revealing a fascinating insight into how the subjects were taught 90 years ago.

The satchel was discovered underneath a pile of boxes inside a storeroom cupboard at Aylestone Business and Enterprise College in Hereford by staff during a clear-out in June.

The "beautifully presented" books contain pages of painstakingly neat notes and several detailed drawings of plants and wildlife.

Assistant head teacher Cal Hendry, 44 - who has taught at the school for 15 years - said: "Other than the books, there was nothing in the satchel except her name and address."

"Nobody knows why it was left behind. It's a mystery."
