Twenty days after a Lagos traditional ruler, Oniba of Iba Town, Oba Yushau Oseni was kidnapped in his palace, his abductors have explained why they are still holding him.
The monarch was kidnapped on Saturday, July 16, 2016 in his palace when he was about taking his bath, just as they killed three persons, including a 25-year-old artisan, Riliwan Rasak.

Speaking to Vanguard in an interview, a source close to the family said that after the last conversation with the abductors, “They claimed that it was their wish to release the monarch but they could not do that without collecting ransom. The family begged further but their pleas fell on the abductors’ deaf ears.”
Vanguard learned that the abductors were demanding for over N40 million which the family could not afford.
The palace source noted that the family had been sourcing for funds to rescue the monarch but efforts to get the required ransom proved abortive.
He added; “You know that the money is huge. They will need the assistance of the state government to get such fund. But the state government is not showing any concern for the continued abduction of the monarch. And we know that if they had shown concern, the Oba would have been freed.”
