In line with the outcome of the just concluded Stakeholders’ Forum on tyres on May 9, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that it will on Monday begin a six-day nationwide monitoring campaign and surveillance on vehicles’ tyres.
According to the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, the exercise will be supervised by nine of its topmost Management Staff and all Zonal Commanding Officers to sustain the free vehicle safety checks in field commands.
Speaking on behalf of the Corps Marshal on Thursday, the Head, Media Relations and Strategy of the corps, Bisi Kazeem, said the exercise, which is to commence on May 23, 2016, aim at reducing road crashes caused by substandard and expired tyres.
Officers to lead the exercise include the Deputy Corps Marshal Adei Abu (Operations) to cover Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa and Katsina; Deputy Corps Marshal Chidi Nwanchukwu (Admin and Human Resource) to take charge of Edo, Delta, Anambra and Ondo; Deputy Corps Marshal Ojeme Ewhrujakpor (Technical Service and Special Duties) to cover Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Abia and Cross River; Deputy Corps Marshal Theophillus Charles (Motor Vehicle Administration) to cover Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Kwara; Deputy Corps Marshal Ahmad Kogari Hassan (Special Marshal and Partnership) to cover Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe and Nasarawa; and Deputy Corps Marshal Demola Lawal (Training Standard and Certification) in charge of Plateau, Bauchi, Borno and Yobe.
Others are: Assistant Corps Marshal Dr. Kayode Olagunju (Policy Research and Statistics), to oversee FCT, Kogi, Niger and Ekiti; Assistant Corps Marshal Kayode Fanola (Corps Secretary) to cover Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi and Benue and Assistant Corps Marshal Godwin Ogagaogeneh (Personnel) to cover Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, the statement said.
Kazeem also explained that the Management Staff deployed to field commands are expected to participate in direct supervision of the free safety check exercise, ensure interactive session with Vulcanisers’ Associations, address tyre dealers, teach other staff what to look out for in tyres and organize motor park rallies.
